~Conlee & Brooke~

Our story:

Brooke and Conlee had encountered each other a time or two during Brooke’s 13 years in Alberta, however it wasn’t until a mutual best friend—and Brooke’s roommate at the time—officially introduced them in 2018…that is when their real story began. 

Conlee had recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of buying a sailboat which, at the time, waited for him in a boatyard down in Mexico. After the first meet, and about a month of long distance communication, Conlee asked Brooke if she would accompany him to Mexico to help him get the boat prepped for her maiden voyage. Brooke, although knowing nothing about sailing or sailboats at the time, was no stranger to adventure, and didn’t hesitate—she agreed wholeheartedly to join him.

In September 2018 they were off on their first official date…a 10-day drive from Alberta to Mexico. They spent the trip getting better acquainted, eating way too many tacos, laughing themselves to tears, and exploring every nook and cranny of Conlee’s new boat. Christened ‘Akh’lut’—she was a sleek 38ft German built aluminum boat with a blue water design and a history of world sailing.  

By the end of their ‘first date’ it was decided, Brooke would move aboard Akh’lut and sail with Conlee for the winter, all beginning just one month later. 

Just over a month later, on the evening of November 1st, 2018—after weeks of travelling, packing, planning, and provisioning—they were back on board and officially casting off their lines to begin their first grand adventure aboard Akh’lut; leaving the familiar behind to explore their new lives beyond land.

It has been over four years now. Conlee and Brooke have been living aboard and traveling together ever since, with the welcomed addition of Muoi, their Siberian Husky who had been staying with friends until their return to Canadian waters.
